R. Kikuo Johnson

R. Kikuo Johnson is an American cartoonist, illustrator, and storyteller who was born in the island of Maui, Hawaii. He currently lives in Brooklyn and spends his time working in his studio and teaching at the Rhode Island School of Design, from where he graduated with an Arts Degree. He visits his family in Hawaii any time he can, and enjoys playing the ukulele.

His drawings and stories, which regularly appear in books, ads, periodicals, animation productions, and magazine covers—namely, the New Yorker—have earned him prizes as far back as 2016. He is the first cartoonist to ever win the prestigious Whiting Award for his wonderful graphic novella, “No One Else”.

Arrels Barcelona is the latest addition to a virtuoso mix of clients, such as Coca Cola, Marvel Comics, Nike, and Nickelodeon.
